Project Manager

Engitix is a well-funded, pre-clinical stage biotech company, developing a portfolio of programmes in fibrosis and solid tumours, based on its pioneering proprietary human extracellular matrix drug discovery platform. Since incorporation in 2016, Engitix has been on an expansion curve and currently has 50 employees, and is looking to double in size over the next 12 months. Key accountabilities:

The Project Manager will support three key core platform teams whose activities underpin Engitix’s unique Extra Cellular Matrix (“ECM”) drug discovery platform: Biomaterials, Biobank and Bioinformatics. You will work in partnership with the core platform teams to develop and execute on project plans and strategy and identify risks and opportunities to mitigate such risks and to improve processes, acting as a primary interface between the core platform teams and the various drug discovery/therapeutic area project teams- (the core platform teams’ “customer”). The Project Manager will work closely with the CSO, project leaders and external collaborators to:

  • Work with core platform Team Leaders to develop and maintain detailed programme resource and time plans and ensure delivery of required outcomes on time and within budget.
  • Organise, coordinate, and document project team meetings.
  • Prepare, manage, and report against cost and time budgets
  • Interface between core platform groups and multiple drug discovery project teams, identifying and managing potential competing priorities.
  • Engaging and managing stakeholders across the business (including HR and Finance)
  • Determine critical path activities and facilitate core platform and Drug Discovery Team Leaders’ decision making
  • Identify potential problems and track issues that arise. Provide appropriate solutions
  • Ensure projects risks are identified in advance, mitigated, or managed. Assist in the creation of contingency plans and alternative scenario planning
  • Work with CROs to outsource activities and optimise resourcing

The project manager will manage the governance and reporting process for a portfolio of projects, ensuring the core platform teams have the tools, expertise, and resources they require to deliver on their various project goals and align their activities to the wider organisation’s vision and objectives.

What we are looking for from you:


  • A BSc/MSc in a Life Sciences discipline with 3+ years project management experience in a relevant industrial setting (biotech/pharma/CRO). Good knowledge of the overall drug discovery and pre-clinical development process. Experience of working in a matrix organisation with multi-disciplinary teams
  • Basic understanding of role of bioinformatics and experience of interacting with bioinformatics / software teams.


  • A professional qualification/certification in project management.
  • Relevant post-graduate research experience in an industrial setting (biotech/pharma) Experience of using various project management tools (e.g. MSProject)
  • Microsoft Office skills – excellent proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Self-motivated taking personal pride in delivering on personal and corporate objectives
  • Able to interact effectively with individuals at all levels of the organisation
  • An eye for accuracy and good attention to detail
  • Strong organisational, time management and communication skills
  • Ability to act on own initiative within inter-related team and meet deadlines and dynamic turnaround requirements
